Located only minutes outside of the city, the formerly derelict drive in has been restored to its previous luster. Sporting three screens, state of the art sound equipment, and plenty of modern amenities, Thunder Road captures the yesteryear nostalgia of days long since past while offering the newest and greatest in cinematic technology. Each screen can accommodate a generous number of parking spaces, each equipped with multiple sound stations for the listening pleasure of patrons. For those lacking in vehicles or walking to cultivate a different experience, there are picnic areas at the front and sides of each lot to satisfy those needs.

For each massive screen, there is a dedicated snack bar. With options to order from exterior windows or from counters within, each little eatery boasts a wide array of classic movie theater and amusement park eats. Of particular note is the Thunder Road Funnel Tunnel, a cylindrical piece of delicious funnel cake, stuffed with the fruit filling of choice and dusted with both powdered sugar and cinnamon. A limited selection of beer, bottle only, is also available.

Thunder Road boasts additional entertainments in the form a large arcade and three miniature golf courses, each with their own smaller snack bars.

Original Star Wars trilogy on a big screen" Arcade" Mini-golf? Olivia got the night off work, put on her best resale shop dress, and spent her Saturday night doing something more exciting than serving malts or having to find a quiet place to study.

Penny arrived at the Thunder Road Drive-In Grand Opening with a trio of coworkers in what may have started off as a mild team building exercise. Showing up to check out the car show first had her breaking off from the group briefly to get a bear hug from the owner of Busted Knuckle Garage, a gorilla of a man by the name of Schmidt. Laughing off his tease to see if she was looking to get behind the wheel of something, she knocked knuckles with him and went on her way to rejoin Miles, Eileen and Benjamin for a few rounds of mini-golf.

When things started to turn a little hot and heavy between Miles and Eileen in the backseat of his sedan during the end of Grease, Benjamin and Penny gave each other a look and got of the car with the excuse they were going to go get some more snacks. At least, that was Penny's plan. Benjamin had other ideas.

"So how about we go find a spot with a more private view?" He asked with a heavy-lidded look down at her.

Penny glanced at him from the corner of her eye, shook her head and released a bit of a laugh. "We can get some food and eat at those picnic tables and catch the movie while the other two have their fun."

"Aziz-am, no. Just us. Come on." He wrapped his hand around her wrist and the other was at the small of her back to guide her off towards the backside of the snack bar.

Penny didn't go willingly and was quickly twisting her wrist from his grasp as she turned about on her boots to face him as opposed to walk beside him. "I don't think so Benny. I'm not interested."

He pressed forward which resulted in Penny back-stepping until her spine was up against the side of the building. "Ah, yes I've heard about how you like things Aziz-am. I read the file on you. It's been some time since you lost your water warrior. You need another fighter to pin you to the ground like he did, don't you?"

Penny blanched in a mix of horror and embarrassment at the rumors he was claiming to understand and for a second she stood there just frozen.

"I am exactly what you need Aziz-am. Don't deny it," his tone had grown husky before leaning in to press a heated kiss on her.

But Penny wouldn't let him close the distance and instead pressed a palm firmly against his chest to inch him back from her. "You don't know a ****ing thing Benny. I've told you no once. Don't make me say it again."

When Benny laughed and leaned back in to try to kiss her again, that was when her fist rose to connect with the left hinge of his jaw in a rock-solid punch. The force of that did cause him to stumble back in a mixture of shock and bone shattering pain. Cradling his jaw, there was a grunted sound of agony and what Penny imaged was him saying something particularly unkind.

"I, on the other hand Benny, read your file. Your jaw is probably broken again." A cold smile formed as she stared at him for a heartbeat or two and then started to walk off. "Tell Miles and Eileen that I'm heading back on my own."

She'd go back to Thunder Road, but the next time will certainly be in better company.

(ooc: edited to correct the name to Busted Knuckle Garage because my memory is garbage and called it something else.)

Desdenova VonTombs

Date: 2017-10-22 14:01 EST
Star Wars. Drive In Theater.

There was a whole other sensation of watching a movie in the outdoors. It was somehow lush, even in the desert. The screen seemed bigger, to take up the entire sky, the sound was full and thick with the doppler effect of all the speakers from the cars. There was a comfortable camaraderie between the film goers. It didn't matter if you talked, if you cheered, if you retired to the back seat to steam up the windows, or conked out in the truck bed.

Despite the fact that there are a few operating Drive In Theaters left in California, most were pretty picky about the whole driving in in a car sort of thing. That meant Desdenova had to wait for his family or driving friends to take him.

But.

Desdenova read the Thunder Road flier several times, and it even encouraged walk-ins. So he had his night sorted out quickly. He gave a call to Nile, and then scooted outside to the car barn and stables.

Soon enough, Desdenova was driving a cute little buggy, drawn by Daisy, to pick up Nile. They were just going to watch some cool movies and eat junk food and possibly play goony golf and just hang out. Besides, they had a built in chaperone.

It wasn't a date.

It was Star Wars. They were nerds. It was a natural outwelling of their nerdicity. It was part of their nerd heritage.

Desdenova carefully directed the nightmare and the buggy to a good position to watch the screen from, and after working out the speaker situation, bounced down to race for the arcade. After blowing a few bucks there, they scooted to the mini golf course. Desdenova was pretty awful at it, but he was pretty good at cheating, at least, until Nile caught him at it.

Once darkness started to fall, the race was on to get as many snacks and treats as possible before returning to the buggy and Daisy. The nightmare was infinitely patient, and anyhow, they brought her a bacon wrapped grilled onion and pepper hot dog, too.

Finally, they sat in the buggy's seats and watched the movies wide eyed.

Though the Drift Queens predominately showcased Japanese makes and models in their races, several of the members had more than one vehicle. For the Thunder Road's Opening Lisa decided to stick with American Classics to go in line with the general theme of the venue. Overseeing the car show with a sharp eye for the most part, she only disappeared long enough to make sure that her daughter wasn't trying to make out with anyone in a random backseat.

Playing loud and proud for the afternoon concert, Misery skipped joining the rest of the band for any movie watching, (considering she expected Addie and Ro to make out for about 95% of the movies) and instead joined up with a few familiar faces in the arcade. She wasn't that great at Skeeball, but Zombie Problem 2 was basically the best game ever and she planned on dominating as much as she could.

More like 94%, Misery. Way to over-exaggerate. The other 6% of the time Addie spent watching the movie while Ro hit up the arcade. At the end of the night she had to practically drag him out so that he didn't clean the place out of prizes.

Horrifically jetlagged, Verity made it back to Rhydin Saturday morning to find she had to find a way to take three giant shadowbox posters from Rhydin Film School out to the new drive in. There was a certain nostalgia factor that had her agreeing to the task until she was forced to contend with the whole....not having a car thing. Thankfully she found a taxi driver willing to finagle the prints into his cab before shuttling her out to the drive in. There she handed off the prizes and sweet talked the management into agreeing to an interview at a later date for a documentary they had been working on in class. With the official business handled, she spent the rest of the evening checking out the new facilities then made her rounds between the various screens to bask in the glow of Star Wars, The Outsiders, and Labyrinth.

Sira showed up a little before nightfall giving herself enough time to briefly check out the arcade (and maybe play a couple games) before grabbing some popcorn and heading out to watch Cars, Treasure Planet, and The Labyrinth. The first movie wasn't really up her alley, but the other two were. Holy codpiece, batman!

Since she doesn't have a car she took advantage of the picnic area, and brought a blanket along for added warmth.

Shae arrived for the opening weekend on the back of a motorcycle. Parked and traded for a shared picnic table with Cris to enjoy the War in the Stars — as she called it — triple feature on the first screen. The story was engrossing, and she was thankfully fortified with an apple filled Funnel Tunnel and a bottle of water for the lengthy viewing.

Eventually, they traded the bench slats for Dippin Dots and a foray into the Arcade. Lights and sounds vibrant enough to make her pause to take it all in. Once she became accustomed to the ambient noise, she spent the time exploring games with Cris and helping small children become legends at Skeeball by borrowing luck from braggarts who approached the game with the intention to show off to their friends.

After playing games, they headed outside for another sort. Mini-golf, in all it's zany glory, proved to be a challenge worth tackling. No cheating or manipulation of luck this time, she was determined to make her way on skill alone. Her defeat by Cris was by a healthy margin, but she had fun and was getting better as she went. Pooled arcade winnings meant they were taking home a stuffed fox, a small collection of edible jewelry, and a gigantic lollipop.

Clara persuaded Jake to make the drive all the way back to the city from Marshton so that they could hit up the opening. It was a drive in. Marshton didn't have one of those! And they certainly didn't have them back home either. Before the feature films, she spent time shooting targets and putting balls in holes before she loaded up on plenty of popcorn and soda and settled amidst a pit of pillows and blankets in the back of Jake's truck to watch the original Star Wars trilogy. Likely while annoyingly quoting most of it throughout.

Just narrowly they had made it to Thunder Road before the opening credits of A New Hope. Will had first heard about the drive in's opening and thusly proposed to his girlfriend that they attend. What he hadn't told her was just what was in store on the big screen. So, still waffling on her commitment to going, the royal blue Jeep rumbled up to a spot in the back of the rather packed lot. With the back door open they laid out in the cargo area, trading Reese's Pieces and the beer they had smuggled in via a cooler stashed behind the front seat. When Nicanora finally realized just what would be playing, she was struck with a reverent silence that found her wholly deterred from any mid-movie shenanigans (though between flicks, the paramedic was fair game). The trilogy held her attention in a way that few things did these days and she hardly even paid attention when Will went sneaking away to the arcade to win her a pair of Star Wars themed prizes before the end of Return of the Jedi. An ewok plush and a rebel alliance emblem ring were mighty fine offerings and the Fundane was rewarded with a private smile, the touch of red lips to the corner of his mouth, and a quiet thank you. As they departed the drive in at the end of the night, she had but a few words to offer.

"Christopher would have loved this."

Text from Mallory: Trick!!! Text from Mallory: new arcade opening today. with starwars. and mini-golf! Text from Mallory: also TRASH will be playing there this afternoon. wanna go"

It was a no-brainer. A new arcade and Star Wars and carnival food and putt-putt' plus the bonus of getting to hear TRASH play' There's no way he'd miss it. It would have been bad form to spring a last minute First Date on Penny, so he refrained from calling her building to ask her out and instead agreed to hang with his sister and Rob.

After the concert, they grabbed a bite to eat and wandered through the rows and rows of classic cars while consuming funnel cake for dessert. When they were finished, the three of them converged on the arcade and all its wonders. When Trick found Misery crushing all competition at Zombie Problem 2, Mal and Rob stuck around to cheer him on while he took on the pint-sized banshee for a game. Misery smoked him. "I'm not good at shooting games!" he insisted, laughing. They decided to have a rematch. After the third round (that Trick lost—again), Mallory dragged Rob away to play some DDR until her brother decided to accept defeat (which wasn't for another ten minutes.)

After talking with her for a bit longer, Trick parted ways with the drummer so he could track his sister down. He didn't count on finding someone else he knew instead. He didn't know it would feel like getting punched in the stomach to accidentally run into his ex, even though that was exactly what it had felt like to see him four weeks earlier at the Color Fun Run. When was it supposed to stop" When was he going to be able to look at Ed and not feel the warring urges to either abandon his pride by admitting he was still in love with the boy or the overwhelming rush of anger and hurt that came with remembering the night the truth came out' Why couldn't he move on' Why couldn't he look at him and feel nothing at all"

It didn't help at all that, just like that fateful night, he was rooted to the spot—forced to watch Goshen lean in and press a kiss against Ed's neck. Goshen even went so far as to lock eyes with him. He saw it all: the way Ed sank back into Goshen's embrace, the glittering gold circlet around Ed's throat as it was tugged backward with just enough force to make it press lightly into his skin, the triumphant smirk on the older boy's face. Ed twirled around to face Goshen and threw his arms around the older boy's shoulders, draped beautifully against him. They kissed as Goshen helped himself to handful of Ed's behind.

Trick left before he was subject to watch anything more. By the time Mallory tracked him down again, Rob had bailed and Trick had somehow managed to get his hands on some weed which they smoked together while playing mini golf before the movies started. Not wanting to ruin his sister's good time, he never mentioned having run into Ed at the arcade. Instead they camped out at a picnic table and drank cheap beer while they watched the first movie. But older sisters are pretty smart—Mallory knew something was up. Trick was too buzzed to realize that it wasn't coincidence that had caused his best friend, Connie, to show up unannounced; that Mallory had called him to make sure he wouldn't be alone while he drank his pain away.

Maybe someday he'd be able to get drunk enough to get Ed off his mind.

The activities of the Drive-In were something that Nayun had little to no interest in. In other words, she'd rather be training; especially on a Saturday night. But there are wants and needs and while she wanted to train, she needed to be there to support not only Lisa - but time with their daughter as well, and this was something she did with pride. She spoke little, like always, and seemed more well suited to watch in silence as the night went on....until she saw her daughter sneak off with the boy, Edward, with putters in hand. The private game of two wouldn't stay private for long.

Almost everything showcased at the drive-in appealed to the limelight nymph with the exception of mini-golf. Too many times being on the losing end to King's little sister had left a sour taste in an otherwise sweet mouth. If any beckoned or challenged her, however, she would take up a putter with the might of a deceptively fragile looking knight and be sure to give them a run for their money.

But she would still lose.

Things that the city siren did not lose at though: Random and equally useless facts about the original Star Wars which she schooled a few holier-than-thou mouth breathers in before she was trapped in a nostalgic back and forth with some toxic tongued men (boys) that were all tossing bets around over the winners of a classic arcade machine: Marvel vs. Capcom.

The noise from them only escalated when Peaches, this gorgeously puzzling and wild eyed virago, took to slaying them all one by one with a vicious Morrigan/Venom combo. Literally no one could go toe-to-toe with her as she took them down one by one and their consolation prize was nothing more than a coquettish smile washed in muted pink.

Eventually, after she had been crowned queen of the arcade, she speared her way through the avenues of cars and trucks where the trilogy was playing. It didn't take long for her to bribe her way into someone's vehicle to watch, starry eyed, at some of her favorite flicks in the cinema world.

Saori arrived with Mai, and spent a great deal of time checking out the car show. After examining the classic cars with enthusiasm she ventured off to briefly check out the arcade where she played a few games with marked lack of skill or success.

Later she drifted over to the edge of the picnic area to watch a bit of the first movies, but began to look increasingly gloomy and ill tempered. After some time she moved toward the exit and sent a message from her phone, soon after departing in a car that arrived to retrieve her.

Ed

Date: 2017-10-23 21:59 EST
TRIPLE FEATURE + ARCADE + CAR SHOW

By these powers combined, Ed was certain he was going to have the best night of his life, especially after convincing Goshen to share the excitement with him. When he had heard about the grand opening of the Thunder Road Drive-In, however, his cousins had been in the vicinity, and the enthusiasm had spread like a disease. They insisted on going as well, which wasn't exactly a problem. It only meant that Ed and his boyfriend were going to have to behave themselves. They could do that, right"

Ed's first mission that day was to hit Turtle Junction, his favorite thrift and secondhand junk shop in all of Rhydin. There he acquired as much Labyrinth paraphernalia and merchandise as he could get his hands on. Abby and Jameson were more than happy to help, especially because it meant they got themselves some cool 80s duds to wear, too. A few hours were spent that morning reminiscing about their good old days on Long Island, before the mishap that had brought them through time and space to their new home here.

Back at the apartment building, they rifled through their goods and doled them out amongst the family. Ed had even found a red and white candy striped footed pajama set for Polly. They soon discovered it was a few sizes too large for her, and set it aside in the to-grow-into bin. Seeing the youth of their family in such high spirits, Auntie Sizzle and Olive both volunteered to take baby duty for the night. Pert and Noodle squealed in excitement, and everybody rushed to get ready to go. Ed tossed on a pair of skinny black jeans and a Dance, Magic, Dance sweater he had found that was only two sizes too big for him, but it was comfortable and had Bowie's Goblin King face on it so he wasn't complaining.

https://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/LASZY0CcVXDrVgT1ScLz0Q/cid/229952541/id/goTYpYS35xGhQdI0Ws0rKw/size/c600x987.jpg

When Goshen rolled up out front in his family's pickup, they immediately knew there wasn't going to be enough room for everybody. The Wegman brothers, Jack and Gus, had jumped on the tagalong bandwagon, too. Fortunately, Jameson volunteered to take his van as well. It gave everybody plenty of room to store extra blankets, changes of clothes, and boxes of snacks to smuggle in so that nobody would have to spend a fortune on concession stand food. Not to mention a small collection of unmentionable substances that they planned to make a buck off of during intermissions.

As the boyfriend, Ed had special shotgun privileges that allowed him to hog the front of the cab with Goshen all to himself. Abby and Noodle were more than happy to ride in the bed, hooting and hollering as their hair whipped in the wind. Pert chose to huddle in the back of Jameson's van, which she mistakenly dubbed as the safer of the two options, and was the only one who wound up losing her lunch (or breakfast in this case) the moment they parked in the lot for Screen 3. The van and the truck aligned side by side with their rear fenders facing the screen, the latter with its doors wide open. Jameson threw down a pair beat up old of captain's chairs for extra seating.

For the majority of the evening, Jack and Gus volunteered to guard the vehicles while the rest of the group meandered about and played. Given the strict instructions Goshen had been given to ensure the truck remained in pristine condition, he seemed reluctant to leave it under their supervision, but a reassuring smile and kiss from Ed soon won him over. After achieving the high score in Gauntlet, and giggling his face off like a juvenile with a dirty secret, Ed finally allowed himself to be broken away to indulge in other games. Literally running into Trick at the skeeball machines had come as an unexpected shock. It shouldn't have surprised him. The way his heart caught in his throat like he'd just stuck his hand in the cookie jar, when he shouldn't have, again, was unnerving. All was made right in his world again when Goshen grabbed him up from behind. When he blinked and turned around, Trick was gone, and he thankfully did not see him again the rest of the evening.

After a round of mini-golf, Ed dragged Goshen through the car show so that he could gush over all the pretty machines. The race cars did not interest him so much as the old, antique models, which seemed to be disappointingly very few in comparison. Though he did not see the specific make and model that he considered to be his favorite, he certainly told Goshen all about it as they made their way, hand-in-hand, through the snack shack and back to their vehicles. The gang huddled up for the night with an assortment of popcorn, candies, sodas, and even a strawberry filled Funnel Tunnel just for Ed. Okay, he shared.

By the time Labryinth started, they had all settled into a cuddle pile: Goshen, Ed, Pert, and Noodle snuggled in the bed of the truck, Abby draped across the roof of the cab. Jameson and the Wegman brothers chilled in the van. Joints were passed around as much as snacks. The sugar crash hit Ed before the movie ended, which was only okay because it was one he'd seen before. He fell asleep blissfully curled up at Goshen's side, head on his chest, pastel rainbow llama plush squished between them, and woke in the morning with Goshen delightfully still there.

A battered, blue 1982 Ford F-series pickup wasn't quite Goshen's style, but it suited his purposes for the Drive-In perfectly. It had been all too easy convincing his pseudo parents to lend him the family truck; all it took was one tantalizingly persuasive smile and the sworn promise that it would come home in exactly the same condition in which it had left. And not only would he be using it to hang out with his boyfriend (whom his parents adored), they were also being joined by a handful of others. It was a group thing. Goshen was making friends. Fox and Margot couldn't possibly say no.

Labyrinth might feature a crying infant but no one wanted to be subjected to a real, live squalling baby. So after they loaded the bed of the pickup with enough pillows and sleeping bags for an army, the gang said goodbye to baby Polly, who was being left in the expert care of Auntie Sizzle and Olive. The single pick-up was not enough to ferry the entire group, so they split the load between the truck and Jameson's black cargo van. They arrived early and parked side by side, with their back fenders facing Screen 3, to ensure they had plenty of time to get some games in before the triple feature started.

Some things were inevitable—like running into one's ex—even in a city as big as Rhydin. It happened by the row of skeeball machines: Ed spotting Trick, and vice versa. They were both a pair of deer in the headlights, still caught in the awkward limbo of hesitant, polite smiles and a lack of anything to say. Trick's smile vanished after Goshen swooped in, coiling his arms around Ed's waist, and pressing a kiss to his neck that made the boy squeak. A bout of giggling followed as he squirmed, Goshen's lips having found a sweet spot that he knew was ticklish. Trick's swift disappearance had little bearing on the rest of their adventurous foray into the depths of the arcade—Ed needed enough tickets for a very particular plush prize which Goshen insisted on winning for him.

Ed and Goshen joined forces with Jameson against Abby, Pert, and Noodle for their first game of mini golf in an epic boys vs. girls showdown. It was impossible to tell by the end of the game which team had actually won, given the fact that they'd all resorted to cheating — but it was all in good fun. Their sides ached from laughing so much. At the car show, Goshen fawned over everything sleek and beautiful. But he found the most enjoyment in listening to Ed go on and on about his dream truck, a model that predated his father's d"mod" vehicle by fifty whole years. It was information that was filed away as terribly important and something he wanted to help Ed acquire at some point in the future.

Unimpressed with and slightly weirded out by the first feature film, Goshen opted instead to lure Ed back to the mini golf course for another game. Though there was less cheating this time around, the score wasn't any better due to the amount of "helping one another" that happened. They made it back in time to catch the start of the next movie (which wasn't any better in Goshen's opinion), but he found that copious amounts of weed helped greatly. By the time David Bowie's glorious face graced the screen, the brat prince was far too mellowed out to pay close attention. His take-away from the movie was that goblins steal babies and he had to be assured by Abby that goblins would not steal little Polly before he would even consider bedding down for the night. They all fell asleep at some point, the five of them crammed together in the bed of the truck like sardines. But it was nice. As far as Goshen knew, this is what it meant to be part of a family.

Schmidt

For Schmidt, it was a lazy day for catching up with some familiar faces.

Catching (or more aptly, being caught by) Penny had turned into a big hug theft left the pretty woman's feet dangling for a time, followed by a few good laughs and yet another humorous attempt at selling her a car (he'd get her on the hook someday). They parted with the promise for some more serious catching up sooner rather than later, before he was moving on towards Lisa and her crew. After checking under a few of the hoods of some of her American muscles and some cutting up with the Dairy Queens (it wasn't nearly as clever as dildocepticons), the mechanic was back into the crowd.

Meeting up with Evia had mostly been the plan. They spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering around the car show (he was an encyclopedia of automobile history and knowledge, there was food to grab in the arcade, and movies to see. Grease and The Outsiders were watched from the hood of his card while they split a sixer and talked, before ending the night with the Labyrinth and eventually parting ways.

"Caaaaaaaaaaaaael! CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEL." A frenetic bundle of endless energy, the fleet footed faerie flitted to and fro from room to room in search of the druid. Her hair was ever the wildfire in her wake, tied back only by a burnt orange headband that matched the fall tones of the frilly dress she donned for this most special of occasions. "CAEL! The sun is going down, it is time for the driving in and the moving pictures. We must go!"

Driving....in.

Moving....pictures.

It wasn't that the stoic druid was a stranger to the lure of technology's magic. He had been in Rhy'din long enough to have become accustomed to it, even if he had done very little to indulge. There had been other things keeping his attention away from truly discovering the appeal of 'modern amenities'. He didn't indulge in it at all. What the druid did indulge were the whims of a slum, bubbly little faerie girl and, currently, some of those 'amenities' had drawn her attention.

"I know," he called gruffly as he stepped from his room, throwing a cloak over one broad shoulder. Cael was already dressed for departure and casting an emerald stare down the hall towards the sound of her voice. "The wagon's outside, waitin' fer us."

She turned the corner and went skidding to a stop, a dazzling grin spread across lips painted with bubblegum pink gloss that smelled like....you guessed it, bubblegum. Breathless, she pushed her hair out of her face and skipped the last distance to the druid and stopped in his shadow. Her dainty hands lifted to smooth across the front of his shirt and the edge of the cloak hanging over his shoulder. "You are wearing the grump face when there is nae anything to be grumpy about. The wizard knight will assuredly be there and the bees have said they shall follow us there should there be any mean faces."

That....that was a good thing, right' Evidently so! She spun around, grabbing his hand along the way to drag him out of the great stone manor by the sea and out to the horse drawn wagon waiting for them in the courtyard. "I am told there will be candy. And the popped corn. And the tiny golf. Can we do all the things?"

"Always wearin' the grump face." He scowled at her but there was little to no heat in it. Vaeluthil smoothed across his chest and he was reaching down to give her a little pinch. Without elaborating further, he slipped an arm around her shoulder and guided her for the door, then out it, to usher her unhurriedly towards the wagon.

It was a single affair of smooth, polished wood, sealed against bad weather and marked with elegant engravings mimicking the autumn winds. The horses themselves were summoned by the druid, featureless stone elementals that were stock still at the pair's approach. "I'm sure ye can have whate'er ye want, Little Dove but I dunno what tiny golf is."

"Hullo pretty ponies." The little faerie gave the nearest stone horse a pat as if it were no different than a real one before hoisting her hemline up and climbing up into the wagon. More often than not, Vaeluthil preferred closed carriages to open wagons but for this, she was told, it was better to have an open vehicle for the sake of watching the moving pictures. As she settled in her seat, she gave Cael a patient look. "It is like big golf but tinier."

Duh, druid.

Cael still didn't know what golf was, but he wasn't going to argue with her. Not about this. He climbed in after her not long after, ignoring the reins to hunker down on the broad front bench. Behind them there were blankets and pillows, and the other sundries Vaeluthil had claimed they would need for their outing. It was harmless to trust her judgement in something so mundane, so he let it go. With a gesture of one gnarled hand and a grunt, he set the stone horses in motion to start their slow progression towards the Driving-In.

It was slow going but Vael didn't mind too much. The company was good (if stoic) and the evening was crisp in the right ways instead of the wrong. Winter hadn't yet began to permeate the air and the crackling of leaves beneath the wagon wheels was a pleasant cadence to go with the stone hooves of the summoned horses. Eventually they left the city behind for the open countryside beyond the city walls and soon approached the sloping entrance of the newly opened Drive-In. The lights were bright, reflecting their neon glow in her wide, mismatched eyes, and she took it all in with slack jawed wonder. There were not one, not two, but three different screens to choose from. "Wh-which one do we go to?"

Squinting at the sign upon their approach, Cael cast a look in each of the three directions before glancing back down at the little redheaded faerie. Then he glanced at the other buildings and all of their activities hidden with and beyond. "There's nae a thing interestin' about grease. Useful but not interestin'. Outsiders are dangerous and best avoided. Wars in the stars" Plenty o' war down here."

He finally pointed to the third screen. "But a world o' treasure and a labyrinth' Might be worth lookin' at, maybe."

"That....one....is....CARTOONS!" She squealed and nearly climbed on the poor druid to get a better look at the third screen. Ultimately it ended up with the faerie on the man's back, pointing over his shoulder to it as if to urge him to go that direction. Once they set off again, her attention was soon ripped from the prospect of animated movies in favor of the cinnamon-sugary aroma of something irresistable. No sooner was the wagon parked in a stall before she leaped out of it. "Cael! They have cake funnels! I repeat. They. Have. Cake. Funnels."

The sudden jostle and crawl on the diminutive woman up his back produced a familiar round of grumbling and the harmless play for pinching fingers. Eventually pinching fingers smoothed over her legs to keep her from falling as wagon rocked with their arrival.

"Wha'" Oh. Wonder if they have ale..." And soon enough, it was time to find out. With the wagon properly parked, Vaeluthil was lifted free with the druid following her down. "We'll get yer funnel. What kinda fruit?"

"They do, I smell it." And the diminuitive fae certainly had a keen sniffer if ever there was one. Once on the ground, she crinkled a little at the feeling of gravel underfoot and shifted her weight frequently to keep from lingering too long on the rocks. As always, she had foregone shoes. So restrictive they were. The moment Cael got out of the wagon, once more she was tugging him by the hand to the snack booth. "Strawberry, methinks. With extra powdered sugar" Prettiest of pleases?"

"Ale fer me, then," he nodded and began fishing through his pocket for coins. "Fruity Funnel or whatever fer ye."

The money was doled out and moments later, they were wandering (really, Cael was following, because blinking lights, all those colors, and an easily distracted faerie) back through the grounds. Eventually they were bound for their wagon. "Don't eat it to fast. One o' us will regret it later."

Half of the Funnel Tunnel was gone before they even made it back to the wagon and by the time she climbed up into it, she was giving him a sugary sweet smile. His warning was one that was seldom heeded though and the rest of the funnel cone was devoured before the opening scene of Cars was done. As the sun sank further beyond the horizon and the twinkle of stars began to wink overhead, Vaeluthil scrounged up the quilts from the back of the wagon and made herself a proper nest in which to watch the bright colors on the screen.

Both Cars and Treasure Planet held her attention fairly well so she was minorly confused when it switched finally over to Labyrinth. For awhile she watched but judging by the shifting and fidgeting, it became fast apparent that it didn't do the same that the more superficial cartoons had.

"M'sisters are goblins y'know." She told Cael quietly, rubbing a smudge of strawberry sauce from her lip. "They're dreadful, positively dreadful. And the Goblin King....he is nae that pretty either."

Cael....he slept through most of cars, though he somehow managed to keep it quiet. Mostly. It helped than the big blonde druid could drink in his sleep. Literally. By the time Treasure Planet was in full swing, he had woken up and was suitably engaged with the adventure involved with the movie, though the culmination of its plot eventually required another drink. He abandoned the little faerie long enough to fetch himself a trio of bottles and some of the 'popped corn' she had mentioned previously.

Labyrinth was....something. Vael's offered words had him glancing down at her with an arched brow. "All goblins're dreadful. And smelly."

"Nae always smelly but almost always dreadful." She agreed quietly. Pensive, she seemed less inclined to go find the 'tiny golf' after all. Vael picked at the popcorn, her fingernails pulling apart the tiny popped kernels into even smaller pieces. As delightful as the musical numbers were, she couldn't quite get into them and finally tugged on the druid's cloak to make her soft request. "I think....I think mayhaps I'm ready to go home, if that's alright."

"Same difference," he grunted and, at her request, a gesture of his big hand had the horses backing the wagon up slowly. A long time in one another's company had mading picking up the nuances of her moods an easy thing but this change, it was more than palpable. Cael reached out a hand and rubbed along her slim back gently, noting saying anything else when the horses were turned around and pulling the wagon back towards Seaside.

With the drive in fading behind them, she gave him one last quiet remark and then settled in for the ride home. "Mayhaps someday I'll tell y' more of the Erlking. The real one."

((Written with the help of the ever wonderful Cael. Thank you to him <3 ))

They arrived in Cane's prized Jeep which boasted an unfortunate hood ornament, compliments of Skid.

Finally, he'd figured out how to make Sal watch a movie all the way through without him falling asleep: take him to the drive-in during Autumn when he can't sleep. Of course, he knew there was more to Sal's aversion to movies than simple disinterest. A lot of it had to do with his being color blind and the tiresome strain it put on his eyes. As such, Cane made sure to provide adequate distraction throughout the lengthy trio of movies. He told the Spaniard stories about seeing the movies in theater when they first came out — the first in New Orleans and the last two while he was living in France. They occasionally made out like no one was watching. They ****ed at one point, too, but the power of voodoo helped keep that discrete. When they weren't lip-locked, Sal's attention was miraculously glued to the screen. This was perhaps because of sheer force of will in an effort to keep himself from giving into the temptation to murder everyone in their vicinity and turning the Drive-In into the scene of a massacre. The only casualty of the evening was a random bee that had buzzed too close to his ear; Sal had squished it mercilessly.

"Ah, no wonder, it was on AM," Sophia said quietly to herself but still full of frustration, falling back to the driver side backrest of the red-purple 1957 Thunderbird with the stereo now properly tuned into the frequency of the Thunder Road Drive-In. Now, she could finally enjoy herself. The drive east of Rhydin City was over, most of the day's hustle and bustle had calmed down, and her phone had been set to alarms only. Advertisements were currently on the airwaves, more informing than promoting the itinerary of the drive-in for those who hadn't showed up with a plan. She shivered, one problem dealt with and another swiftly at the forefront as the autumn chill flew in through the window and hit her exposed shoulders that her gray hoodie couldn't stay on top of. Before she could crank up the window, an old roadster equipped with a rumble seat pulled in next to her, and a college kid leaned out and gawked, either at her or the Thunderbird.

"Nice car!" he said genuinely, and Sophia grinned not too winsomely.

"You too," she said.

She got the window up to just barely being able to get a hand out and unwrapped her green painted nails from around the crank. The mood was set: the dutiful voice of the Thunder Road Drive-In hype man reading off the Saturday schedule served to foretell the old-fashioned drive-in experience to come, and it helped being in a car of the times, it helped being surrounded by cars of the times.

Rhydin had been like coming back to your old town, where you graduated, where your parents lived, and some things you recognized, and some things you didn't. But it still felt like home at the end of it, or a version of it. Sophia was ever impressed with Rhydin's ability to adapt brilliantly to whatever came to its fantastic world, to make the best of it and to profit the most from it. The classic car show had been much earlier in the day, but like true Rhydinians, the motorist community was saying at the end of it, "What next?"

A theme was thus decided upon.

Mixed in with the casual and newcomers to the drive-in was the returned again or all-day car show attendees, either pitched up in tents or seated next to their car trailers (where the shade had been before the sun went down), and making the warp through time fully successful, many of them had agreed to don their pleated skirts and snug sweaters, their old Letterman jackets and cardigans, corduroy trousers, and anything else soda shop appropriate.

It wasn't just a night at the drive-in, it wasn't just a Saturday. It was a game night and the game had been moved to Sunday, so all the jocks and cheerleaders, sweater girls and Laney Boggses couldn't be anywhere else with all that pep-rally-made energy. Halloween had come early, and for some it would be the best they would get this year. Everyone was having good fun, laughing, asking strangers what year it was and who they would be taking to the out-of-season prom. There were lots of greasers, Janies and Anns, Richie Cunninghams, Buellers, Archies, Casey Beckers, Audreys, one Leo Sayer (or Richard Simmons"), one Jeff Spicoli, one too-soon Harvey Weinstein, and one improvised Grease number until a particularly premature graying star quarterback went sideways on a spin and moaned of a herniated disc and enough times that the flash assembly quickly forgot the lyrics to We Go Together and abruptly disbanded.

Sophia had to break character a couple of times, brandishing her futuristic portable phone device and snapping a few pictures of the aged high schoolers sitting on the backs of their convertibles and passing the time until the picture started. Her nose stayed down in her device a few more minutes after that until one seemingly underachieving jock rapped on the passenger side window of the Thunderbird with his hands full, hot from the concession stands. Sophia looked up and leaned over, opening the door.

"I hope they got more napkins. I took all they had," Aurast said, scooting in with bright red plastic baskets and flourished, crinkly wrappers that were becoming more transparent by the second the more fry grease they absorbed. "Hey, be careful, all right, babe? If we make a mess in my dad's car he's gonna be pissed," he said in a completely unusual accent for him, but not unusually completely in character.

"How about just give me my burger, stud," she said, grinning and beckoning for her food. He passed it over to her with a mouthful of fries and took in the sights as a particularly ill-fitting Kimmy Gibbler, Gibbler-like, walked through the aisles looking for her Tanner Family.

"This is getting worse. It's as I feared: the timelines are all converging on one another," Aurast said.

"Oh, you got a compliment on your car," Sophia said when she found a ladylike moment between biting and chewing.

"I did?"

"Those guys next to us." She indicated, and he leaned over to catch a quick glimpse of them and their ride before leaning back and whipping his magnificent Dracula 2000, Gerard Butler curls.

He waited a long time and said, "You like him, don't you?" in that completely unusual accent. Sophia didn't mean to snort, and that was more of what she was laughing at than what he said really.

The picture soon played to initial applause and then mellowing down to a disturbingly mature quiet, at least to start, as many feminine necks found their way onto neighboring shoulders, the front seat space between them having suddenly closed. Friends uproariously laughed and riffed on the film, smokers billowed out their silvery streams, and some Thunder Road volunteer staffers joked and laughed at the sidelines as there was a good enough and peaceful time being had by all as to not really require them. Aurast and Sophia had closed the distance in their cabin as well, their highly relaxed breathing a direct byproduct of the now empty food baskets that were stacked outside the window to the steel tray mounted with a button-press speakerbox and a lightly illuminated menu complete with an old-timey drawing of a toothpick-skewered dill-spear decorated burger.

The film ultimately performed very well for its billionth showing. Internet memes young and old united kindred Star Wars fans of all ages for brief and less-brief moments communing out into the cold: the now decade-old Star Wars Rap, steel bikini plausibility, George Lucas's notorious tinkering, Starkiller Base, and of course Admiral Ackbar. And the Yoda impressions, in almost munchkin-packaged Gregorian unison eerily combined into what sounded like some sort of massive machine that should probably be switched off so the living animal caught up inside its inner workings somewhere could hopefully be freed. But before long, Palpatine fell down a reactor shaft, and a few people smartly decided to start beating the traffic out.

"How come you didn't move back here?" Sophia asked randomly. "It seems really nice."

"Hm?" Aurast mumbled with his cheek pushed his against her Tresemme-scented head. "Oh it is, it is. I don't know. You just move sometimes."

Carefree, happily, contentedly, Sophia shrugged her shoulders. "Okay."

With the Ewok scene drawing ever closer, Aurast shifted his attention to this new subject that was infinitely more interesting than the feast on Endor. He bumped into her this time, just in case she were dozing off. "How come you don't move here?"

"I already have a home with friends and family there, and no real reason to: there's no job, universities I like, and I don't have a real sense of exploration. It's nice, but I'm happy where I'm at, and with the selection of men they have there." She rubbed and then protectively patted his stomach that had since slimmed back down from his more prolific dueling and drinking years, all according to plan of course.

"Sophia Per", I do believe I love you," he said, and kissed her on the head.

John Williams cued the starry credited backdrop and many engines into firing up. Red lights beamed on the fanciful fins of the majestic old body cars, temporarily shining the way to dropped phones, keys, and loose change. The lovers and Thunder Road staffers came alive again, things to do now that the old familiar, soothing, and extremely quotable picture had ended. Sophia zipped up and pulled on her hoodie, flipping through his keys with those neon-painted fingers to the one that corresponded with the 1950s ignition switch. She wasted no time sitting up and owning the car, shifting tough combative gears and draping sweatshirt sleeves over that wide tractor steering wheel. Aurast stretched.

"You ready to go?" Sophia asked, checking her sides and mirrors before pulling out.

"Yeah. We're getting out pretty early. We've still got plenty of time," he said, checking his dive watch before crumpling up a candy wrapper with both hands then blowing a bubblegum bubble.

The car stopped suddenly, the brake lights bright and furnace red, and Sophia devoting a great deal of muscle movement to a doubtful eyebrow formation than attention to driving. "Time to do what?" she said, and with a head-turning expectoration of a hot pink bubblegum blob out the window, he whipped his hair back in to tell her what he thought she already knew.

"What do you mean' We can't leave without hitting the arcade.?

It wasn't the end of the night, per se...

The making out had ended with the pretty lead singer of Trash wanting snacks. Good boyfriends make the snack runs, right' Romeo had gone out with the best of intentions and, (un)fortunately, got himself distracted by the allure of the arcade. One Mortal Kombat championship (in his own mind) and a millionty-one tickets later, he had to be tugged out of the place by his belt loops.

Addie? She ended up with another giant stuffed animal for her collection, a handful of candy necklaces, and a ring pop. To further make up for it, she was treated to a rather embarrassing but heartfelt rendition of 'Magic Dance' during Labyrinth, including some fancy footwork on the roof of the car.

Clara begged.

Plus....it was Star Wars. Ancient but never old!

In the end, it hadn't taken much to talk him into the trip, as it meant getting to see Deadward and Yunni again, so the old truck was backed into a spot and settled in for the long haul. The games were plentiful and varied, but a lot of his time was spent at the shooting gallery, racking up the points and the tickets before handing the latter over to Twinkle do with as she wished. Then it was a matter of loading up on snacks and curling up together.

He only called her a nerd three times. Once for each movie.

Not once, not twice, but three times would poor Liyun be marched back to her room and told to change her clothes.

Nothing too sexy! That hemline is too short! That is too much hip bone young lady!

In the end she was left with something way more casual than sexy and Liyun wasn't, AT ALL, thrilled about it. Why did her mom get to dress up like a vixen and not her" Jake's going to be there too and she planned...sure, Clara and all, but she still wanted to maybe catch his eye! A little skin here, a little cleavage there, is it so much to ask for"! Then again, she didn't want to really try to get in between anyone...but a little recognition still didn't hurt! She tried not to look too down as her and Edward went off to play mini golf...At least, that was until mother decided to come onto the scene.

"Come on...We're just friends!" being Liyun's complaint, but that didn't seem to matter. While she may have been annoyed during the early part of the game, that seemed to subside mid-way through due to mostly Edward.

Then her mother had to embarrass her by telling a couple ahead of them that they could not hold up the game by having an "intimate moment".

Borrowing his uncle's classic roadster, Doran drove skillfully-but carefully—east of the city, heading for the lights that indicated Rhydin's newest attraction. He had asked Sylva which set of movies she wanted to see, but having never seen a movie before, she had no preference.

"Hmmmm, Star Wars trilogy' Love 'em, but maybe not for a first date....nope, Cars to Labyrinth it is!" They got there early to get a good spot. The shows hadn't started yet, so Doran took Sylva around the arcade, where she managed to beat him at Skeeball three out of five games, and all three mini-golf courses. (He won two out of three there.)

Then it was movie time. After grabbing two buckets of popcorn and very large sodas, they settled down to watch the films. Cars was a bit mystifying, as both of them kept wondering, where are all the people? Treature Planet had them enthralled, and Labyrinth was simply enchanting, with the Henson Company's work in full bloom. Plus, y'know, David Bowie.

All in all, it was a magical night.
