Rhy'din, get your drink on!

For the third year running The Dreamchasing Foundation in cooperation with The Botanical Gardens, and in conjunction with local brewers, distillers, shiners, runners, vendors, bottlers, imbibers, sellers, and representatives, presents Booze Fest!

Booze Fest this year will be held August 6th with the gates opening at 8:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. pacific time).

The Botanical Gardens have once again graciously offered up their stunning venue for the Rhy'din's premiere festival of all things booze and booze related.

The promenade begins at the fountain and winds its way along either side of the walk.

Lanterns and strings of colorful lights join each vendor's stall and add their own whimsical light to the lamp posts.

The Brambles was back for the Booze Fest this year, with their selection of ciders and perries, and a few fruit juices for anyone who didn't want to imbibe too much. Everything was available to taste, and to add a little more appeal, the excess berries from the orchard had been brought along. Dip in the chocolate or don't, it's free!

A couple of barrels of apples were also there, next to an apple press. If anyone wants to try their hand at pressing their own apple juice, they're very welcome to try!

The full line of Hangman Distillery offerings were available as well.

https://68.media.tumblr.com/746fb95dfafbf4170ab16935aa889e4f/tumblr_ok4yxpGavW1twqulho2_500.jpg Ghost Bear Whiskey— An evolutionary liquor, the Ghost Bear experience begins with the scent and ends with a continued flavor on the palate long after swallowing. Sporting notes of toffee, oak, nut, fruit (black cherry and ripe peach), and dark chocolate espresso, the complex flavor is laid over a lingering, leafy damp kiln smoke reminiscent of leather, tobacco, and a hint of wild game. Slugger's Select Honey Whiskey— Sporting a pungent honey scent right off the bat, it also has a touch of earthiness to it in the form of fudge, all spice, and complimentary floral notes. On the tongue, Slugger's Select boasts a rich and dark flavor with sweet milky coffee, dark chocolate and demarara sugar lightened by some candied lemon hints. From start to finish you can expect rich and sweet honey undertone beneath it all ? lightly pungent and floral, with a real honey flavor. Black Bear Bourbon— With Black Bear Bourbon, taste a melding of candied citrus, blueberry, nectarine, and sultana, all pulled together with honeyed vanilla and orange. Underneath, there is a kiss of cocoa, mint, and cinnamon married with tobacco leaves, leather, and a tasteful bourbon barrel char for a warm finish. https://68.media.tumblr.com/262df89072d3acdd5520f46ccca18779/tumblr_ok4yxpGavW1twqulho1_1280.jpg Fireshot Cinnamon Whiskey— Cinnamon obviously dominates Fireshot's flavor. Equal parts sweet and spicy, it's alarmingly drinkable. At first whiff it seems quite fiery and while it has a big dose of cinnamon, it carries a pleasant heat with accents of brown sugar and butter underneath the cinnamon and spice with just a hint of barrel char to balance the sweetness. https://68.media.tumblr.com/952b5a178d332d8805bdc41dfe1cca20/tumblr_ok4yxpGavW1twqulho3_500.jpg Gallows Private Label Select— With a remarkable aroma of tropical fruits like pineapple, grapefruit, guava, mango, and peach, the Gallows Private Label Select also offers hints of toffee-coated nuts, vanilla fudge, cedar, and cocoa. It finishes with very light note of peat smoke for a smooth, heady, and haunting flavor combination that lingers long after the last drop.

A handful of specialty cocktails rounded out the menu, each made with one of Hangman's specialty liquors.

Isaac Wheeler

Date: 2017-08-02 00:34 EST
New to Boozefest this year, Isaac's small booth had a touch of Allegheny charm and carnival showmanship with old, worn wood and a colorful banner. Wooden crates were packed with straw and filled with different types of shine in their traditional mason jars while several were arranged on the booth with special pouring spouts affixed atop the jar. A few shot glasses also lay scattered about for tastings. A little hand painted sign hanging off to the side reads: Not for the faint of heart.

From the venerable White Lightning and the stronger Blue Flame (cause it burns blue) to the more exotic shine spiced with cherries, strawberry rhubarb to one with the heat of habaneros, the small selection would no doubt satisfy the purists and the curious.

Jesus may have turned water into wine, but it was the hard workin, hard hustlin souls of the South that turned it into liquor. With some Georgia corn and malted barley mixed with a little bit of water and some backwoods ingenuity a man could end just shy of divine.

Distilled the old way...illegally and guaranteed to bite like a rattlesnake, then go down smooth.

White Lightning

The Old Guard in the shine business. Straight to the point and no frills. A bolt like no other.

Blue Flame

128 proof deliciousness. Strike a match and see that the proof's in the flame. If it burns blue, it's true.

Cherry Shine

Maraschino cherries bathed in 100 proof put new meaning to the phrase sweet heat. Once they're gone the remaining shine is a perfect mate for cola or ginger ale.

Crossroads

Come one, come all. This 95 proof shine has a nose of cotton candy and finishes with a clean burn.

Star Shine

Inspired by Isaac's sister, Josette, and distilled when the stars burn brightest. Star Shine is kissed with oak to leave a sweet taste of Madagascar Vanilla, honeysuckle and pear.

Boomer's Brew

Named after Isaac's dog and best friend, this 103 proof blend is hard smoked, bold and smooth.

Strawberry Rhubarb Delight

Inspired by the southern pie, the Strawberry Rhubarb blended shine is the perfect southern summer sipper.

Devil Went Down to Georgia

Spiked with quartered habanero peppers, this 100 proof shine is hot enough to make the Devil himself beg for baptism.

Benjamin Piers

Date: 2017-08-06 20:10 EST
http://i.imgur.com/2BLzGfJ.jpg

Back to back to back, Benjamin found himself in high demand for a series of action films, playing the hot young heroic sidekick, the sweet and confused nerd backing up the hero, the vaguely annoyed elder brother protecting his magical little sister. It kept him far too busy to keep up with anything, and even had to take a hiatus from his ongoing series, Midnight Gardens of RhyDin.

Finally, however, he was able to return from the extended stay in Targa, and joyfully returned home. He spent a fair week reacquainting himself with his horse, his donkey, his chickens, his crows, his fox, and mainly, his bed.

Thorn's Booze Fest was a grand opportunity to go and see people, meet new friends and greet old ones, and he cheerfully met up with the Holtendirks to get their show on the road.

A few small midway stalls were set up with various games, a little shooting booth, a ring toss game, darts, each booth stocked with horribly creepy prizes to win and plenty of booze for the tasting or purchasing.

Along with the spicy bitter Star's Old Fashioned Liniment was the deceptively sweet Cherry Moonshine. Bacon Moonshine and Apple Pie Moonshine, of course, and special edition jugs of Cucumber Cool and Red Hots Moonshines were available. And the original plain, of course. All were available in one pint Mason jars or half gallon stoneware jugs.

The liniment could be used as liniment, of course, with its spicey thyme-menthol scent, it did have cooling and soothing properties used externally. It just also happened to be a delicious bitter liquor and it'd kick gin's ass in a martini.

The cherry moonshine was half-packed with ripe black cherries, the liquid tinted pinkish black, sweet and smooth.

Bacon was bacon in moonshine. Sweet and savory and Bacony. Bacon. Nuff Said.

Apple Pie was a complex mix of apple pie spices and chunks of apple, sweet, spicy and perfect in a hot beverage, or even added to real apple pie.

Cucumber Cool was infused with fresh cucumber, a perfect, refreshing taste of summer. Not sweet or sour, but cooling and just a touch bitter.

Red Hots is not for the faint of heart, a good three or four handfuls of the candies were dropped into every jar, and bled a sinister bright color and cinnamon into the moonshine. Plenty of kick!

As usual, Benjamin had stolen his costume from the last movie, and wore it to the fest. It had nothing at all to do with trying to explain how short his hair was cut. Of course not.

Of course, the little midway featured a ring of straw bales where about twelve old dogs waited for adoption. Ranging from an eight year old pure bred blue tick hound to a fifteen year old three legged beagle, all were in good health, fixed, housebroken, good with kids and other pets, and looking for a forever home. A rescue worker sat with the hounds, ready to fill out paperwork. Each dog's name was clipped to its collar.

(Want a doggie? Just pick out what you like and there ya go!)
