Please click here to see the survey results regarding what people think should be done for the governor SL going forward.

As you can see, most people want the SL to continue. Awesome!

The trick part: Player response is pretty evenly divided over what should be done with it. One or two players that voted for one option or another just doesn't count as a clear majority.

I am all for continue the governor SL similarly to what it has been. My favorite idea is having a lieutenant/assistant governor and then if someone wants to have an assigned council too, that's good.

Discuss!

I like that idea, too. Just my two cents. :)

Just kind of giving this a bump here.

Are there people willing to step up to help run the elections?

I previously stated my willingness to help make this happen again, but life has recently become a little more demanding and I do not think me taking the lead is a possibility. I may be able to lend some support, but I'm facing several family medical problems at the moment so I may not be able to take any part at all.

It would be great if several people could work together to make this happen. Google Docs is an invaluable resource for planning this type of thing.

I would like to volunteer to help contribute OOC, IC, running the elections, or however else I may be needed.

My goal is to help progress the Election SL and this year's elections, since others also seem interested in the overall SL.

I am willing to do that in any capacity that I may be able, due to my own real life scheduling restrictions.

Who else is willing to help"

Just want to throw this out there:

I know Fiona's player stepped up, saying she is willing to make an election happen. However she can't and shouldn't be expected to do this alone.

The survey was clear: Players want the Governor SL to exist. However, if no one else is willing to step up and help Fiona out, it won't. I've seen multiple posts about people wanting to run for governor. The only way that will happen is if people step up to help run the election first.

If you really want the SL to continue, what are you doing to make that happen?

I just want to throw this out there to keep the community up-to-date on what?s going on.

Since I cannot take the lead on running the election this year, Fiona ONeill has been awesome in stepping up to get this thing running. She has my total support in this and has a lot of great ideas how to make this happen.

So stay tuned in for details!

I look forward to seeing what Fiona O'Neill's player, herself, has to say as well as what she and her team have in store for us.

Thank you for taking the lead on this, Fiona.

Since I cannot take the lead on running the election this year, Fiona ONeill has been awesome in stepping up to get this thing running. She has my total support in this and has a lot of great ideas how to make this happen. Thanks so much Jewell! :)

Yes, for better or worse, I'm stepping up, taking the lead, and any other phrasing you'd like to use.

I will apologize in advance because I know most people will think I'm moving too slow, moving too fast, not doing enough, doing too much, etc. I'm ok with that because I want to do something, even if I'm doing it wrong. If someone else would like to take lead, I welcome you to do so and wish you luck. Until then, I will continue the best way I can. Please be patient with me at times. I have a life and family and work too.

I've been working on a bit of a game plan which I'll continue to share as I go along. I plan to post a tentative schedule soon. I will be doing most of my 2014 Election-related OOC messages here and I hope everyone does the same. I would like to focus on productivity, so let's leave the fun and games for the IC activities, and not in our OOC idea sharing and planning thread. ((Sideline Commenter: Wow. She's a big stick in the mud, isn't she"))

For those willing to be a candidate:

A Playable will be put up sometime over the weekend with more details. Once that goes up, players should PM the screen name that made the Playable with the character they would like to submit as a candidate. All the names will later be put on the Primary Poll for the 2014 Election. I'll give more details later. Please do not send your candidate submission to me, unless I say otherwise later. I anticipate that my Private Message inbox is going to be too full of complaints and I may miss your submission. ((Sideline Commenter: Was that supposed to be a joke" I think that was a dig.))

At any time now or after the Playable, characters are able to post their election intentions, public speeches, and election-related stories to the RhyDin Election forum. So keep that in mind throughout the election process. Get your candidacy posters ready, people! It's up to you to get your own name out there.

For those willing to help out:

There are a million things to do for the Elections, and we don't have to pick just one either! We could do a bunch of activities and events, big and small. The Governor SL's success is up to the community. It's going to be as big or as small as you make it. Feel free to use these as base ideas to get started and add your own ideas as well. If you like, PM me and let me know what idea you'd like to run with and I can help guide you, give feedback, and work with you on tentative dates. I'm happy to coordinate efforts, but I do not want to just start assigning tasks. I want people who are as passionate as I am to 'step up" and volunteer to "take the lead" on one of these projects too. ((Sideline Commenter: Oh, for Pete's sake, there she goes again with the digs.))

Debate: This can be done similar to the styles in the past, or take on a totally new spin. If lots of people would like to host the debate, it could become a panel of interviewers.

Interviews: Those with characters in media might like to interview one or all candidates on their platforms. TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc are all welcome to interview anyone any time. Go to the inn one night and do your own preliminary poll to see how well each candidate is doing before the official poll. Interview the public!

Mini Mixers: These could be several small events, like a quick "Meet and Greet". Candidates could come and go as their busy lives allow them. Each meeting could also utilize a different setting like the Great Hall, Teas"n Tomes, Stars End Bar, and even one over on the ROH site, or those with their own settings can invite candidates over.

Something Else: I don't think of everything. I'll be happy to say your idea is probably better than mine. If you have that mind blowing idea, do it! Show it off!

I look forward to working with anyone who is willing to put up with, I mean work with, me.

I know little to nothing about the elections thing. But I have voted via my charries in the past.

And if I the writer/rper can be of any help in this new venture of taking things on. I am open to giving any help I can even if its just side line help.

And Fiona your brave to take the lead on this venture.

I know exactly who you are, and I want to you to know that I have admired and respected you for your welcoming nature and gaming ethics of inclusion ever since you began Bristle Crios.

If there is anything I can do to help or support you OOC, feel free to ask. Unfortunately my characters are currently unavailable, well" At least the ones that would help IC that is....I do have a few that would be happy to hinder, heh, but that's not very helpful, sorry!

I am sure you will do a wonderful job as you have already done with Bristle Crios.

Don't let the pressure, stress or BS get to you, instead have fun with it!!! If it does start to be too much, step back, breathe and take a break! (From it, not us!) Feel free to tap another willing soul on the shoulder in the meantime — I see some very worthy souls have already stepped up. Kudos to you all! ::and hugs to Ebon Player!:: All of you rock for joining in!!

Best of luck to you, Fiona Player! But somehow....I don't think you will need it — I think you are going to knock this right out of the ballpark! :)

Fiona,

For the first time ever, I'll be....short winded" Let's run with that.

It's hard for me to sum up exactly why I think you're the perfect person to head up something like this, simply because I have an inkling of how organized and structured you are; given the volume and varied ideas regarding how the SL/event should be handled, your natural inclinations are perfect to bring all those ideas and desires together into one comprehensive, dynamic event.

I waited until I was busy posting something to write this, to force myself to be terse. I'm thankful of the work you've done to try to organize my own writing creations, and I'm eager to see (and participate wherever/whenever able) how this one for the greater community works out.

I hadn't yet chimed in on the Governor debate yet, though I've been following and interested.

You totally have my support. :)

Sincerely, Kris

ps. That was shortwinded? -.-

pps. Yes. That's a shameless plug.

Thank you so much to everyone posting and PMing their support and willingness to volunteer! I believe I've been able to reach out and begin talking to everyone one-on-one so far. Generally allow me a day or two to get back to you, but if I haven't written you back after awhile, please feel free to send me another PM and nudge me. Unlike our characters, we are all human and we all miss things.

Ok, so let's start in, shall we? I'm taking this thing a bit slower than it has been done in the past. I'm new to this whole process and I don't want to mess anything up by rushing through it. I'm hoping the extra time will give more people an opportunity to be involved. Below is my tentative schedule for this 2014 Election. I say tentative because this is all subject to change at any time. Like I said, I'm new to this and need to work out some kinks along the way. All I can really promise is that I will try to keep you updated as I go along, but I'm not even promising that because I'm not a very good politician. ;)

Tentative Schedule

Playable asking for Candidates: Sept 1 ish There will be about two weeks to collect candidate names. From the moment you decide to enter the race, feel encouraged to begin your campaigns!

Playable announcing Candidates: Sept 15 Poll Post for Primary Election: Sept 19-21 Playable announcing Finalists: Sept 22

There will be about three weeks to hold debates, interviews, events and other activities. I'm thinking that these activities could be held between Sept 25-Oct 15. Poll Post for Governor Election: Oct 17-19 Playable Announcing Governor: Oct 20

OOC INFO FOR GOVERNOR HOPEFULS

I'm going to begin with the most important people in this whole Governor SL, the people wanting to be candidates for Governor. Without you, there's no SL! Once I get the Governor hopefuls settling in, I'll start focusing on the activities and events. We already have a few people thinking up awesome events and contests, but I'll let them share those when they're ready. Everyone is still welcome to come at me with your ideas and game plans for activities at any time. The more, the merrier. Much like in real politics, you can not have enough press.

This is where all backlash is going to come, I'm sure"

People have already asked me what the Governor should do or how much time they would need to commit to it. I told them that it is all up to them and what they would like to do, but some still seem lost. I know a lot of people don't volunteer for things because they don't know what it involves. So this is my personal take "complete opinion' of what those who are considering being Governor should be willing to commit OOC and IC. ((Sideline Commenter: Oh, she wants some backlash' I'm gonna give her some backlash if she thinks she can tell me what to do!))

Please note. All of these are simply suggestions. Governors can do as much or as little as they like with their term, but I would like to you consider some things before you submit your name. By becoming a candidate and dropping out after your name has been added to the ballot, you just wasted the vote of everyone who believed in you enough to vote for you. Also, by becoming a Governor and not giving it as much time as you think the role deserves, you may be depriving someone else of the many opportunities the position holds. I'll joke and act up as much as I can throughout the election process to make it fun, but this part is the serious part for me. These elections are really an honor and it should be treated as such.

If you want to be Governor, consider"

~ Developing your plan. Pick a right-hand man or woman, a small handful of advisors, a large council of Barons and counselors, or go it alone if you really want. Decide on what you think would help benefit you as Governor during your term. Remember, it helps to have support. Each Governor is going to be different than the others and each Governor has the ability to run the office how he or she chooses. What will you do once you're in there" Incorporate large community storylines" Do more events" Ban alcohol at the inn" ((What!"! Oh no, she went too far now!))

~ Trying to play in Live Chat each month if you are able. The Governor doesn't have to set foot among the "common folk", but a Governor who wants to be involved with his or her people should be there for them. Visit the inn. Watch a duel. Attend an event. Be seen. Want to go the extra mile" Develop a storyline and get people involved in Live Chat! Bonus points to the Governor who can play with the US and UK crowds! ((Those bonus points she's giving out better be fictional, that's all I've got to say.))

~ Trying to post to The Governor's Office forum once every 60 days. The Governor doesn't have to make any posts ever, but some might like to show their involvement with little "I was here" notes in the forum. There is a lot to do in The Governor's Office forum. The Governor could reply IC to other character's posted requests and storylines, as well as post OOC in the OOC thread to keep players updated on his or her ideas for community storylines and events. So why sixty days" Sixty days is the current standard to keep a forum active on the RDI site. ((Look at her, acting like she knows what she's talking about just because she's got a link.))

~ Logging on to check and replying to your Governor character's Private Messages every once in a while so people can get in touch with you. A Governor can completely ignore everyone if they so choose. Who is going to say anything to them, after all" Besides, it's hard logging in every day to check your messages. If you would like a quick fix, it is extremely easy to use any email to alert you to new PMs. Simply log in to your account, make sure the email address listed is where you want the message going, and click the Yes next to "Notify on new Private Message" in "Preferences". From then on, you will get a message to your email account whenever someone PMs you. ((Now she's trying to act all nice and teach us how to fix our accounts. Joke's on her. I didn't come here to learn!))

I'm ready to be Governor! What can I do to earn more votes"

~ Play more. Go to the inn and talk to your people. Tell them why you would make the best Governor. Reach out to the press. Don't wait for the press to get to you. Ask to be interviewed! Attend more events and duels. Reach out to other people and groups. Get outside of your friends and cliques. Start getting involved now and prove you'll be there once you win.

~ Post more. Make posters. Write speeches. Make your own commercials. Print your own ads in the paper. Don't stop until your name is on everything. Be sure to utilize the RhyDin Election thread and post all of your election efforts there. That's what it's there for, after all. Make Playables, but please do not monopolize the Playables by spamming your information there. Before making a Playable, read more about "What Are Playables""

Feel free to begin a discussion"

What are some ways other Governor hopefuls can get involved" How can they earn your vote?

Fiona ONeill

Date: 2014-09-09 13:52 EST
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful turnout for the candidates so far this year! Without candidates, we wouldn't have an election. Please keep those nominations coming in! Candidates aren't the only ones who can get involved in this year's election"

Ways to Get Involved

~ Hold a debate! This has been a major staple of each year's election. I would love to be able to have this fixture be a part of this year's election. This can be done similar to the styles in the past, or take on a totally new spin. There could even be a whole panel of people asking questions. If you or anyone you know might like to volunteer to do the main debate, please PM me" or just do it. As long as it happens, I'll be psyched.

~ Do interviews! Those with characters in the media should feel encouraged to reach out to all the candidates to do interviews. Ask them about their platforms. Ask them about their childhood. Ask them about what they had for breakfast. But don't feel restricted to the candidates! Go out to the inn and ask the people what they think. Ask them who their vote would go to now and why. You don't have to use their real names, either. You can consider it an anonymous poll. Post in your media outlets so we can all stay informed. The candidates need all the publicity they can get.

~ Send letters to the candidates! You don't have to be in the Rhydin media to ask the candidates about their platforms. Write up your letters to the candidates and post it to the 2014 Election thread. Ask them the questions you want to know. How would they improve Rhydin schools" What would they do if there was a zombie crisis" Would they be one to cause a zombie crisis" Issue all the candidates an open letter or write a personalized letter to one or each of them.

~ Host an election event! These could be like a quick "Meet and Greet". One or all of the candidates could be invited. They could also utilize a different setting like the Great Hall, Teas"n Tomes, Stars End Bar, and even one over on the ROH site, or those with their own settings can invite candidates over. Candidates could even host their own campaign fundraisers to amp up their support and funding. The duels have a chance to get in on the fun, too. Do a theme fight night to fight on behalf of your favorite candidate. There are endless possibilities.

~ Talk about it in play! You don't need to host an event, complete interviews, or anything like that to be involved in the election. Even simply having your character talking about it in their play and posts is bringing the Governor SL to life. You can even start your own debates in the inn, supporting your favorite candidate. Keep it a family friendly debate among friends, or turn it into a drunken bar fight if someone doesn't support your favorite candidate.

Are you interested in running with any of these ideas" Do you have any ideas to share?

Be sure to post links to your election-related play and posts here!

The elections are coming up quick and I was hoping to maybe get the three candidates all in the same area at some point if possible. I had 2 ideas in mind, one on the ROH side under the guise of maybe a candidate cage match and then one on the RDI side (maybe in the Inn or something) that can be a bit more serious and give a chance to field questions or what have you from players. I've been working with Fiona on and off on this (the off usually due to my work schedule) but yeah, if anyone has any suggestions, comments, or concerns about either, let me know!

If anyone else had additional plans for events, let me know. I definitely don't want to be stepping on any toes!
