Gentle Repose: -Luric "the Chainmarred" Strongspike or as some circles had called him Luric Chainmarred, had been born one-hundred and eighty-four years ago, he wasn't old enough to be considered an elder dwarf by any means, nor was he a child who chose to do things or follow plans through on a whim, he was a figure to be respected, standing at four foot six inches tall and weighing just over two-hundred pounds, he leaned there near the window using his double-bladed Dwarven waraxe as a prop at the moment he had been looking out the window watching the woods and the now icy field as the sun had managed to stay out the day before long enough it had melted away a lot of snow, the land was soggy with mud and streams of water had started trickling along the land, his gaze had panned far to the left out the window and he could see the crater from his vantage point and was watching as water from the melt and run off was finding its way down to its bottoms, he huffed softly in thought, then fingers of his left hand gently ran through a part in his well tended, lengthy and thick beard, which was just as red as the hair on his head but his beard was longer and had trinkets and clasps braided through its length at spots, his attentions went to the room once again as he heard Asha's disturbed dreaming, he straightened to watch the two on the sofa quietly, but not intending to disturb them or invade their privacy his eyes once again returned to the distant line of trees, his thoughts settling—-
—Asha had by then seen that Charles was sleeping again and she stood, very slowly so that she could make sure that her legs could support her, she pulled the thick fur blanket up and tucked it around Charles, the tray from yesterday mornings breakfast had been cleared from the coffee table and in its place was a pitcher of water and clean glasses, she poured a glass and drank it, her mind finally clearing the grogginess sleep had left her with, she made her way to the fireplace, bending she reached for the fire-poker, feeling the cold metal in her hand she took the long tool and steadying herself with her other hand on the mantel as she leaned to stoke the flames moving the logs on the grate and pushing them over beyond the hearth, she watched as the orange glow grew and felt the head rise as the flames churned and ebbed once again over the logs, once the warm started back into the room she sat the tool back in its hanging bracket at the edge of the hearth and turned to look upon the guard for the evening, who was posted by the window, seeing it was Luric caused her to smile, she slowly pulled the robe close over her shoulders, the draft coming through some of the broken windows showed just how cold it was outside on this dark winter night, as she made her way across to the window she spoke just above a whisper to the dwarf of her elite guard- "good evening, Master Dwarf..." -she spoke the title with a friendly air but one full of respect- "or is it late enough to be called the morn?" -she wondered just how long she had slept, when she looked out the window the moon was hidden behind high grey clouds though no snow had fallen that day-
Charles Blackstone: Charles sleep was by no means peaceful. The nightmares clung to his unconscious thoughts even as Asha left his side. He stirred a bit but did not wake — "Pull up .Get the drop ship out of he..." The dropship explodes and a mixture of human and metallic parts spray out upon a war torn landscape. A younger Charles, with young blue eyes, stands in disbelief. "F*ck f*ck f*ck" Curses spilled out as he turned to a woman who was half human half-robotic "Captain we have no way off this hell hole!" — Charles stirs over onto his side, gripping at the couch lightly — "Captain what do you mean....Stand our ground against those ....those things!" Fear filled the air as a large worm like creature explodes from the ground. Charles, using the same rifle that was propped against the couch, began to fire at the beast to no effect "Run Captain Run!!" A much larger ship soon appeared over head and beamed him up into its bowls — "What do you mean he is missing" There was female voice, young and vibrant "He can't be just gone!?" A older male voice speaks "They took him....I don't know where. But he is gone." — Charles flips onto his side quietly and stole some of the space that Asha had been using on the couch to sleep — "Tell us. Where is she.Where is the girl" A voice called out right before the sound of large amounts of electricity entering flesh. Panting Charles spits up blood "I will never tell you ...." The electricity surges again for a much longer time— Charles stands in front of a castle of sorts. He isn't himself, older, the scar on his eye is still rather fresh. His eyes, normally a cold grey are completely white and his whole body is wrapped in light. The castle suddenly explodes, rock going everywhere as the screams of women and children erupt into the air....all goes black —as only the screams remain. — Charles jolts awake, his eyes wide open as his hand reaches for his rifle instinctively. He is breathing hard and heavy as he stares forward at the table that had housed the food earlier. All was quiet....except the screams.
Gentle Repose: -the battlehardened dwarf gained a smile on his lips, the deep scars which had been inflicted long ago and healed over leaving their chainlike marring deep in his flesh, the length of the left side of his face down below the collar of his shirt and armor, pulled at the smile but he seemed not to be bothered by them in the least, his voice was strong but quiet and dripped with that old dwarven accent though he spoke common tongue- "ah.lass tis only a' hour from dawn...the morn' air is fresh and the cold still lingers...I expect the snow to thaw heavily...but more will fall" -his heard the sounds of broken sleep from deeper within the reading room but his attention was still out the window, though he spoke to Asha-
—Asha nodded quietly, she heard Charles troubled sleep but for the moment she listened to the Dwarf's words- "..that is the way of winter, we have seen this lands harshest storms come and go in these few years.." -a nod of her head- "tell me...news of the village."
Charles Blackstone: Charles could barely hear the sound of Asha and Lurics voices as his head was throbbing with a migraine. The sound from the dream had carried to his conscious mind and it was throwing him off. His eyes were their cold, steel selves with a tine speck of blue dotted in every now and again. He felt like he was panicking, pulling his rifle close to him he looked at it softly. He didn't want to interrupt Asha and her Dwarven guard, as such he kept himself to the couch -As his mind swirled around the screams of civilians and innocents. Unconsciously his eyes started to tear up, and a few tears started to stream down his face.
Gentle Repose: -Luric straightened his posture and rolled those broad shoulders as his one blue eye and one milkish white eye with deep scaring above and below it looked to the tiefling, then idly panned down to the upper blade of his waraxe, he nodded knowing she wished to hear the news he could offer- "..men worked late into the twilight last night..until the fires could barely match the chill of the winds...they have cleared wreckage from the village and started stockpiles of lumber safe behind the walls, a man in the village lost everything he had while the battle went on...his home and family perished...as well as his shop..it all crumbled into the pit" -he exhaled and inhaled and then continued to speak- "a family of five is living with kin...after loosing their home...Maester Jarin has sent for druids...if they come they may have the skill to heal the chasm" Gentle Repose: -Asha listened to him and nodded her head a sad expression came to her face hearing the news of loss she knew there had been vast damages done- "these men...they work to rebuild their home...tis noble" -she glanced over and saw that Charles was awake, part of her wanted to go to him, but the dwarfs news had her wondering if there were more she needed to know, she stood still and waited for him to go on-
Charles Blackstone: Charles needed to walk. Silently he stood, seeing that Asha had turned back to the dwarf. Softly opening and closing the door and gave a pat the the elite guard that stood outside. The screaming in his head tagged with the massive migraine made his stomach uneasy. Just as he was able to step outside he keeled over and vomited. The fresh cold air of the morning stung in his lungs as he pulled on a jacket that he grabbed. The only thing to identify him from afar was his rifle that he had slung onto his back. Glancing about he slowly made headway towards the chasm. When he got there he stopped and looked around the mostly ruined village and knelt down. He felt some of the scorched earth in his hand as he looked to a house that was precariously on the edge of the chasm. The yelling started to intensify as he slowly approached it.
Gentle Repose: -indeed Luric went on to speak after a moment of watch out over the melting field that was running off into the crater from different tiny distributory streams, by spring the crater would form a new lake, the lands had changed drastically around the keep but only time and nature could tell how, then his eyes moved back to Asha- "..Lady Asha...it has been two years since the portal failed..now.." -he seemed to relax his stance just a bit as he spoke to her- "..I may just be a warrior...and not enlightened on much else? -his tone seemed to tell that he didn't think it were true, the dwarfs expression went from the stony watchful one of a guard to a grin- "but if ye had anything to do with its opening once...." -he cleared his throat and chuckled to her- "perhaps opening it again...wouldn't nae be a bad idea.." -he went on before she had time to speak- "..ye could bring in folk who...could aid the people....perhaps families here still have ties in Golorion"
—Asha's brows rose as she heard his words, she was listening and her mind started to work on his suggestion, she had secrets that no one knew and the portal had secrets too, it might have been strange to others that she, the imp of Harrowstone, feared a simple gateway, but some secrets ran deep, she kept herself from letting on her feelings as her pulse wanted to rise, she exhaled as gently as she could - "..Luric...old friend, the portal fell.." -she let the lie pass over her lips, not meaning to lie to the Dwarf, but that's what she had told, countless times over the last two years...and she stuck with it, hoping that the practiced lines would pass as truth, many a being had bought it before- "...even you know that magic can be at times finicky and fading"-
Charles Blackstone: The house was still rather sturdy and put together, even though half of it was over a large chasm in the ground. The floor and roof had yet to give in, meaning that in theory one could step inside of it. Quietly Charles approached the door of the house. It had been singed, with a large burn mark going across it. Carefully and quietly he pushed open the door. Inside he looked around, soem photos on the floor, destroyed glassware. All of which had been scattered as the house found its new settling point on the edge of the Chasm. The screaming became worse and worse the further Charles moved into the house. He gripped at his head as the pain continued to grow. He stopped halfway through the house. The tipping point of the hole thing. Slowly he pushed over to the other side. A great groan of unsupported wood creaked out from the house. It managed to take his weight, just.
Gentle Repose: -Luric watched the tiefling and his grin faded back but his features didn't become hardened, he nodded his head and watched as the first rays of the sun had cast a purple and pink tent to the eastern sky, far away over the horizon- "..twas only a suggestion" -he said innocently, the dwarf may have had secrets of his own, there was a twinkle in his eye, inside he hoped he had sparked some form of curiosity in the impborn, he had noticed without having to look that Charles had taken leave of the sofa and the room- "..ah..seems another is awake and moving about now" -a small smile under the beard—Asha glanced over to the sofa and saw the words rang true..a small nod to the dwarf, a small pang of worry came over her and she turned to move away from the window and the elite guard—Luric reached out and gently his left hand caught her arm slowly, his leather gloved fingers curved around her arm lose but enough so to stop her so he could speak before she moved away completely- "..M'lady, consider what I have spoke here..." -he nodded to her as he looked up at her- "..and..take great care of yourself lass" -a small wink to her as he released her again— Asha nodded her head, her expression was straight but a small smile came to her lips- "much...thanks" -having been released of his grip she reached up and patted his hand before, she took steps across the reading room and into her bedroom, she wondered where Charles had gone to..but thoughts of other things were flooding to her mind too...she went about cleaning herself up and changing clothes-
Charles Blackstone: The purple and pink skies filled the now abandoned house with an odd dance of colors on the wood and shattered glass. Charles swung carefully around and pressed his foot down on the steps that lead to the house's second story. Each step became a labor to take as he clung to the railing. As his head cleared into the open second story he looked about quietly. Toys were scattered about the floor as he finally made the last step up. He knelt down and picked up a small, sewn teddy bear. His head suddenly stopped hurting and the voices left. The relief came with a sigh as he turned to look a the other parts of the room. That's when he heard it "Sir...." A young girl, pale and cold looking was holding tight to a very eerily similar teddy bear. "why did you not help me..." Charles stared in horror at the girl as another one appeared and asked the same thing and another and another until dozens appeared, all chanting out of sync with the question "Why did you not help?" Suddenly a taller female appeared in front of him. "c..captain?" He blinked as he saw her "H...how" he chorus of questions never ended as the ghostly apparition reached forward "Why did you let me die." Then hundreds more appeared as Charles gripped at his ears as the noise was too unbearable as someone grabbed his shoulder and the noise stopped. — The house had started to tip over and was slowly and loudly breaking. Suddenly a small explosion and a body was flung out of it. — Charles hit another building hard and slumped to the ground. Although he was hurt, it wasn't major, just some burns on his front and his clothes, mostly showing the scars underneath and some pain in his back...all was quiet.
