A stranger just appeared out of nowhere, or so it seemed. His eyes roamed the small village of Sawrey. A few days ago he had heard of this village in the Red Dragon Inn. He overheard someone talking about the huge party that was thrown and his interest was piqued. He innocently asked.
"Eldicor" Where is it?"
"East of here, over the mountains. It's a long trip, over three days." Came the answer. It was Jonalyn who answered. She was taking the night off from the Stars End and was in the Red Dragon to get a glass of wine. She wanted company, at least away from the kitchen. She was still thrilled with the party and was talking about it to another friend.
"You traveled over the mountains just for a party?" He asked. He was determined to find this out.
"Oh no, they used a portal, it opens to the village. I met the queen, she is a beautiful elf."
"Who threw the party?" He seemed to ask innocently. He tried to act just interested in her experience. "Her name is Murelle GreyMantle. She's the Baroness of the village. It's a small village.
"Oh!" Was all he said.
He fell silent. Somehow he had to get to the village. Another area he could exploit. He waited patiently to see if someone would appear from Eldicor. Two days and nights he waited. His patience won out. One evening a small woman walked in with a man who seemed to be her friend. She was talking to him and was she was distracted by several greetings of "Murelle!" She seemed happy to see them and warmly answered. The male's eyes scanned the room. He seemed to take in the crowd; his eyes fell on the stranger and lingered for a moment then returned his attention to the small woman.
"A beer Miles?" Murelle asked. Miles nodded; his eyes still scanned the room as if this was his habit. She got the beer out of the cooler and opened it, setting it on the bar in front of Miles. She got a mug of warmed meade, came around the bar and sat with a sigh.
?Thanks for your help Miles, can't stay long but have to get back. Gwyn is waiting."
Miles only shrugged with a smile. His eyes never stopped watching. He seemed to be totally alert to his surroundings. The man knew he would be a problem. He would have to be eliminated. After the pair finished the drinks, they got up to leave. They exited out the back and the stranger got up and followed. He watched as a portal was opened and the pair stepped through. For the briefest moment Murelle was distracted and turned to greet someone, Miles was momentary distracted by this as well. The stranger slipped in behind them and disappeared into the darkness. Murelle picked up something from the ground and the portal closed.
He was in. He was pleased with himself. He noted it was colder here, so he sought refuge in an abandoned barn and waited for daybreak.
