Ginny had promised herself to not get too excited. It was, one had to admit, something of an impossibility to not be excited at all. That the proprietress of the illustrious Heart Notes Parfumerie had liked, or liked well enough, her combination of fruit and flower with essence of strawberry, light touches of gardenia and jasmine with a foundation of white amber. It was, if Ginny was honest with herself, not perfect. She felt it a little heavy on the strawberry, but what it earned her was a chance to learn. Considering herself an apprentice, she was overwhelmed and delighted to be entrusted with the care of the shop while Eless was on her holiday. By no means was she unaware of the great responsibility ? or her mother's feelings on the subject. Her mother had no qualms in professing her opinion on the matter, from Ginny's inexperience and abysmal qualifications, to the tragedy it will be if her family's business were to lose Heart Notes as a customer from her bungling. Benjamin did his best to divert their mother from Ginny's latest opportunity, but she still felt the hurt, guilt, and glee of getting to leave that place each morning to go to Heart Notes. It was such a morning as that. Her mother had sneered and stung through the entirety of breakfast about Ginny's likely destruction of the entire order of gardenia if she was left to do any crafting that day. Ginny could not bring herself to tell her mother that she did not do any special orders just yet, that she was just learning, and had only mastered some of the basic blends, waters, and oils. Not unlike the notes of a perfume, each bitter thought melded in the joyfulness. The walk to the store exchanged the heaviness of her guilt at being so happy to be out of her mother's presence to delightful anticipation of what the day would bring. What clouds rolled overhead were not enough to dissuade her from such merry contemplations as learning how to bring forth artistry of scent. Of course, as Ginny turned the lock of the store door, she had to giggle. The day might also bring Ms. Yancy and her exotic requests shrieked to rattle the glass containers. Ginny was very glad Eless was back in town now.
