Winter's chill still held it's grasp upon the meadows, and mountains, leaving only a dusting of snow. Spring was on it's way.
So said the tips of green shoots that were starting to poke through the white coating. The first grasses, and flowers of Spring waking from their dormancy.
Ice flowers still dotted the landscape, leaving bits of pale blue color in clumps amongst the waking greenery.
It was the falls that stirred her. The dragoness had stayed at the lair with her sister to tend the younglings.
Their father was exhausted and had fallen into a hibernating state. Carrying a piece of frozen wyvern, she'd leave the offering beside her beloved, so that when he stirred, there would be something there for him to eat.
Soon she was making her rounds, checking up on the little ones and children. Some still slept, while others played games of chase, or tag. Peeking into the library, she smiled to seeing Flaive reading.
It seemed his favorite past time. Slipping inside, she'd give their son a gentle nuzzle, then leave a bowl of fruit on a table there.
Only after all had been fed, along with the guards, would she partake of her own breakfast.
Slipping down the chamber that led to the lake below, she would crawl out onto her favored basking perch. A rocky ledge outcrop nearby.
Wings unfurled as the little dragoness took to basking. Letting the sun hit her scales to warm her just a little. Ice blue eyes studied the gardens, and fields, the forests and mountains. Bird song had returned. And so had the herds. Deer were starting to make their way to grazing plains. And rabbits emerged from their burrows.
Finally warmed enough by the sun, she would dive from her perch, disappearing beneath the frigid waters of the lake below. Not just a bath, but a hunt. Her tail propelled herself slowly through the frigid waters as she chased down a school of fish. A few were snapped up before she had to surface for air, then she'd dive again. Eating until she'd had her fill.
Another meal was far between, and she could go for days without. Surfacing once more, she'd glide toward the water's edge, and pull herself ashore.
There, she would shake the excess water from her scales, and move towards the gardens. Stopping only to sniff an ice flower along the way. The sweet smell brought a smile, and soon she'd be on her way again.
There was work to be done.
Talons started scraping at the soil, and she'd pick up fallen branches within her jaws. Carrying them over to drop them into a pile nearby.
Like meals, nothing would be wasted. Some of the stronger branches could hold up vines later, while smaller bits would help keep certain areas of the lair warmer.
