Jewell practically ran out of her house after she got the kids into bed, garbed for such night time activities as scouting, hunting...killing. Her eyes were red rimmed, blue curls looking somewhat wild. Her first stop of the night was the Sanctuary; she didn't even think to go right in, just started banging on the door, "Isssy! ISSY!"
The wild pounding got someone's attention - Eddie was on her way back to her room when she heard the wild thumps and the muffled cries for Issy, and she hurried over to open the door - she knew that voice. "Jewell - hey- what?s wrong?"
She almost fell in when Eddie opened the door, but she was more than relieved to see any of the Sisters. With all the running and shouting, she was almost breathless in trying to get the news out. "Another murder...just..," she pointed down the road back towards her house, "whole family." She was close to tears again, but she was keeping them back. The rage was keeping them back.
Eddie grabbed hold of Jewell's shoulders gently, listening to the news, and her face hardened when she heard it. "When" Where" You all right' Everyone of yours all right?"
"Yes yes..we're all fine." Jewell was forcing herself to be calm—if the young Eddie could be calm, how much more so should she be? Of course, she knew the family personally but..."It must have happened last night' They wouldn't let me past to get in, just told me they were all dead." She was taking deep breaths, the tears that still shined in grey eyes were from frustration. "But..they were friends, their son played with my kids."
Eddie seemed calm on the outside - the years of training saw to that. But, a fine tremor played through her hands, betraying the rage inside - Scathach help her. "I'm sorry - I hoped that this - that it was done with. I'm sorry it hit close to you. I want whoever's doing this - I want them to pay. And I want to collect myself for what they did - no one harms an innocent."
"This was done to punish me, Eddie. I was warned and I didn't listen..and now." She shook her head, furious with herself, "People are getting killed because of me. I just...I'm going out tonight, into the West End or wherever. I wanted you guys to know what happened first. This isn't over..not by a long shot."
She was going on hunches here, and odd coincidences. There was no reason for this family to be targeted, they weren't from the West End and had no connection to the Sisters. Had no connection to the Sisters. She was the connection. She put people in danger. Of course, she hadn't even been able to confirm that it was their murderer but from what the Guard had said...
"I'll make sure all the Sisters know, Jewell. And - then I'll join you out there. I don't want you out alone, Jewell. Whoever this is - it's too dangerous alone. Hell, I don't even patrol alone anymore - Trix and I tag team all over West End." Her face then fell - and tears started to pool in her eyes, making her seem way younger all of a sudden. "I so wanted it to be over."
She sighed a little, realizing what a burden she had just put on the young Sister. She reached out, wrapping the girl in a tight hug, softening her tone. "I know hun...so did I. But don't you worry, anyone connected with this will pay. And I promise I'll be careful..no one's ever gotten me yet." Ah..so she didn't promise not to go out alone, though.
Eddie returned that hug to Jewell, then drew back, looking at her. "Oh they'll pay when I catch them - believe me Jewell." She knew full well what Jewell planned to do- because she'd do the exact same thing. "I'll catch up with you after I tell the others what happened. This is gonna get ugly. Stay safe and watch your back until I get there to do it OK?"
"Sure thing sweets." Jewell flashed her a confident smile, though her eyes were still red-rimmed. She was ready for the night now. "Be careful and I'll see you later."
She gave Jewell one last hug, "See you out there." Then she closed the door, and ran through the Sanctuary, yelling for all her Sisters. This was bad news - and they all needed to know.
Jewell in turn spun about and headed out into the night, determined.
