Tristan had got to wondering where Aja was when dinner passed by and she still hadn't come home. Maria let him know it wasn't unlike Aja to miss dinner time as she often forgot about the time as she worked. So he took her dinner. Now, Aja and Tristan were in the office, enjoying a beer.
Aja watched Tristan for a moment, smiling softly. He was starting to be more of the guy she remembered. Little by little he was returning to old habits, like bringing her dinner.
"Thanks fer bringing dinner, by the way." she said and nudged him gently. He smiled at her. "My pleasure." he shifted slightly. "I was surprised you had anything to drink in here." "Over the years, there's been times when me and Rikki wanted a drink, but didn't possess the motivation to get up and go get it." she chuckled when he laughed. She motioned over to the fridge. "He brought in one of those for those moments." "Genius." he chuckled lightly and took a drink from his beer. Tristan got up and looked around for a minute before return to sit by Aja. "I'm amazed by everything you've done, Aja. This place is way more than I ever dared dream it could be." "I didn't do it alone. Had Rico. The crew." she tilted her head looking up at him. "It's why I give him a lot a leeway. He's earned it...puttin up with me." she grinned and her phone started to ring. Kansas "Carry On My Wayward Son" and she tugged it from her belt. "That be him now." she hit the speaker. "Yeah?" "Aja!" Rico's voice boomed over the line making her crack up. "Come play darts!" and in the background, they heard Trevor yell. "No! No more darts!"
Tristan and Aja exchanged amused looks and looked back to the phone as Rico and Trevor carried on a conversation.
"Shush, Tiny Dragon." Rico told him with a laugh. "Aja. Come play darts!" Trevor made another plea from the background. "Mom! Come get him!"
That plea had her struggling not to crack up. She took a few breathes to calm down. "Alright, alright. We'll be there in a minute." "Who iz we?" Rico inquired, his speech slurring slightly. "Me and Tris." Aja answered him simply, Tristan was chuckling as he listened to the conversation. Aja winked at him. "Don't bring my mother." Rico pleaded. "Bring the Coast Guard!" Trevor yelled out making both her and Tristan laugh. "Shut up, Tiny Dragon person." Rico told Trevor who yelled back. "Rico, I'm cutting you off!" "Cut me off?" Rico seemed confused. "You don't know where I getting it!" Rico called back making both Aja and Tristan almost snort up their beer. "Mom, please." Trevor called out and Aja knew the tone of his voice. "Rikki. Put Trevor on the phone." "Yeah. Yell at the tiny dragon person." he said, then there was a bunch of noise as the phone was handed off. Soon, Trevor was on the phone.
"Serious, Mom." Trevor said, obviously moving towards the back room as the noise level went down some. "He's worse than he's been in a while." "What's he been into?" Aja asked concerned. "Scotch." Trevor answered making Aja make a face. "Crap. Be right there, Kid. Keep him busy and give him the nerf darts." "He whines about those." Trevor said making Tristan chuckle. Aja being used to Rico's antics when drunk wasn't horribly surprised by any of it. "Get the Velcro board out for him." she said as she was standing. "Yeah, ok." "See ya in a bit." Aja hung up the phone and moved towards the door with Tristan behind her. "This is a rare thing fer him ta do." "Should I be warned about something?" He realized that his friend had changed a lot over the years and that Aja knew him best now. "Nope." She said as she opened the door. "This is Rikki, dealin with his mother and now he's got Ajia in the mix making him feel like he's being pushed at." She shrugged. "He buries his head in the scotch fer a bit, is hung over the next morning. He'll take off for the afternoon, fishing. Come back with a decent catch, which, since you were gone, I sort of became defacto best buddy." She saw Tristan's twinge of regret at that comment. "We grill the fish, drink some beer, and talk. Or not. Depending on if he came up with something while he was out there." "Should I keep her away from the Lair?" He motioned back to the pier where Ajia had gone about an hour ago. Aja shook her head. "I'm hoping she doesn't ask him anything heavy. But it's not our place to keep her out." Aja shrugged. "He only mentioned Mami. Which says to me, that's who is bugging him most." "Alright." Tristan said. "We should get going, yeah?" "Yeah, before Trevor shoves Rikki in the closet again." Aja laughed as she went around the corner of the building. "Last time he did that, Rikki got cuddly with the mop." that made Tristan laugh. "Oh how sweet. Did he give it his number?" "It took us a while ta convince Rikki ta give it back." "He didn't want to part with the perfect mop." "We'll take this." Aja said motioning to the ATV with the cart. "Easier to get him back home." "Want me to drive?" "Can if ya want." Aja grinned. "Just remember we gotta haul the lush back. Try not ta pop the clutch on the way home." she winked and hopped into the passenger seat. "Alright." he started up the ATV and slowly takes off. Aja started humming "Lowrider" and grinning at him about it. Tristan chuckled shaking his head. He pulled up in front of the Lair and shut off the ATV.
